Gouda
Gouda
Before picturesque Gouda became famous thanks to Gouda cheese, Gouda pipes and Gouda syrup waffles, there was an official Gouda beertype: Kuit in the late Middle Ages also called Koyt, Keute or Keyte. Kuit was a wellknown pint in the Middle Ages. Known everywhere, but mainly brewed in Gouda where more than two hundred brewers brewed this ‘pint’. As an export product, the beer was simply a strong brand. Gouds (Keyte) was famous as far away as Amsterdam, Brussels and Ghent, and the people of Antwerp drank no less than 150 litres per capita per year. During this BeerWalk, our guests will discover five of the current Gouda craft beers and there is even ‘stroopwafel bier’ accompanied by a stroopwafel. We walk past the old breweries and important buildings that were realized thanks to ‘beer money’, such as the beautiful town hall. In Gouda you may ask yourself: what came first, water or beer. In addition, to the other tastings we’ll drink a tasting glass of beer in the best Beer Café in the Netherlands: De Goudse Eend. In short, if you like beer and history, then Gouda is a must!
