Utrecht

During this BeerWalk along dozens of breweries, the remnants of which are still recognizable everywhere, you will discover historic Utrecht from a completely different angle. We even visit a hidden 16/17th century church that was once a brewery. Meandering past monasteries, churches and wharves (where beers were brewed), our guests will discover it was not only beer they brewed, also vinegar was made out of beer. After all, Utrecht had the best vinegar in the Netherlands, a product made out of beer. The many monasteries where beer was brewed and drunk, including the bishop’s house, are located along the route. And wasn’t the fortress Vredenburg, founded by Charles V, not destroyed during a beer revolt led by a brewster? Until well into the 20th century, the junction between the Oude Gracht and the Lange Rozendaal was home to the De Boog brewery, owned by one of the most social and generous brewers in the world. You will discover this and lots more during the three-hour CityBeerWalk with an eye not only for the city, but especially for the local beer culture and beer and brewing history.
